CFL Draft 2013 Preview: Edmonton

Picks: 5 picks, first pick 10th overall

2012 Draft Highlight: Drafting Shamawd Chambers who showed early flashes of his potential materializing.

2012 Draft Lowlight: Of their 5 picks they used their top pick (4th overall) on an OL who is currently happily employed in the NFL, 1 on a redshirt junior whose rights they just traded away and 1 on a guy who didn’t make the team.

Potential Pipeline: OL Austin Pasztor (Jacksonville), K Shaun Suisham (Pittsburg), LS LP Ladouceur (Dallas), DL Israel Idonije (NFL)

Needs: Edmonton has a huge quantity of Canadian already on the roster at 35 but the quality isn’t necessarily anything to brag about. Their O-line was a pile of hot garbage last season giving up a league high 48 sacks so they would be wise to put a priority on that position. They would also be wise to plan for the possible loss of Ted Laurent next offseason and draft a DL that could step in should that come to pass. In the trenches in where the Esks should be focusing.

Prediction: Hervey will continue his string of wanting to make “big splashes” and make at least one trade involving a 1st or 2nd round pick… most likely by trading away somebody Tillman signed.
